From Rust 'Til Dawn

A turn-based, map-driven survival strategy game set in the ruins of a broken California.

You run Outpost 06 of The New Dawn, scavenge the California wastes, and gamble the future of your people on a rumor: massive freshwater dams, out East beyond the desert, untouched by the old world’s collapse.

This is a game about keeping the lights on, keeping people fed, and rolling dice against a wasteland that wants you dead.

Gameplay

You command squads across a ravaged, post-nuclear landscape.

You’ll scavenge, trade, fight, and make brutal calls, all while the base bleeds resources every turn. The mission is simple on paper: fight your way through the wasteland, and find the dams to bring your people east.

It’s strategic, scrappy, and occasionally unfair. The wasteland doesn’t care about your feelings. Neither do the dice.

Featuring:

• Turn-based world exploration across a stylized northern California map
• Resource management: chits, food, water, gas, wood, components
• Dice-driven encounters with camps, ruins, turrets, raiders, mutants, and worse
• Base upkeep, upgrades and income generation that can save or doom the run
• Squad management: soldiers, vehicles, weapons and repatriation of resources 
• Settlements to conquer and shops where you can trade your way out of trouble
• Map navigation that incorporates real-world terrain elevation and vegetation conditions

Backstory 

Long ago, the Megacorps of old chased AI dominance and drained the world dry. Scarcity, hyperinflation, and the singularity ended everything. Radiation storms swiftly buried civilization.

Now, in the year 2148, survivors cling together as The New Dawn, building an interconnected network of fragile outposts around the globe, sending a message of hope over shortwave radio.

Outpost 06 hears a rumor of green country and a dam-fed lake beyond the desert. You’re the one sent to prove it’s real.

Demo Version 

This demo is intentionally short and rough and designed to give a taste of the gameplay loop. It is:

• Capped at 10 turns
• No saving/loading features
• Only 'Low' difficulty 

The full release will remove these constraints, with multiple difficulty levels adjusting roll handicaps and economic advantage. I plan to release it soon, after some  rounds of playtesting and feedback. Follow this page to get notified when it's out!
